The festival programme will include a new production that Garidge Theatre Company and Mitchell School of Drama have created their new and exciting show for this years Garioch Theatre Festival 2008, thanks to funding given by the Young Roots Heritage Lottery Fund. In conjunction with Aberdeenshire Heritage participants have researched original documents held by Aberdeen Archives. Much of the research has focused on North East poorhouses, uncovering a true story of a young girl born in Peterhead Poorhouse. The company has devised with Annie Scott from Aberdeenshire Heritage, taking inspiration for their characters from objects. From this devising a script has been put together by Charles Barron, and original music written by Ashley Forbes. This truly unique and innovative play is in rehearsal under the direction of Rhona Mitchell. The final piece can be seen on tour in the North East in June, and then again for Aberdeen International Youth Festival in August.
